Sketchbook prep

The yearly week at Grasmere is… well, when you read this I’ll be there.  So in preparation I’ve been painting some sketchbook pages, mostly just with gesso; white and black (and shades of grey).  Not much sewing going on just now, so it’s a great time to go back to basics and looks thought the hundreds of inspirational photos I have and get these drawn up into designs.  2018-05-26 11.40.11
And there was some (ok, quite a lot) of work into wet papers with inks and charcoal.  Mini landscapes to be cut up and see where we go with those…..2018-05-28-15-21-23.jpg2018-05-28 15.17.45

Makeover time for the Studio

After the last six or seven years the studio needed repainting…. and so I went for a dramatic black.  I managed it all except the very top of the eaves and called the professional for help.  Must take an up to date photo now the plants have started to flower, they look stunning against the black.2018-05-09 15.03.26

Trip to London

After Stirling I headed to London for a two day trip to meet a Canadian friend I’ve known for…. around 17 years… but never actually met.  We had a wonderful time, good food and company.2018-04-26 08.14.39Leaving Berwick, a view of Spittal from the train.2018-04-26 15.12.59
Love the buzz of the city, couldn’t live there again, but love a visit.  I nipped in to see the Monet and Architecture… the Reims Cathedral series was spectacular and worth the visit.  The rest was merely interesting.2018-04-27 09.29.31
I was also able to get my various London library and archive collection cards.  Believe me that was the best photo!  Now I can search online and pre-order items before my next visit.2018-04-28 11.47.55
And a promising book….2018-04-29 17.07.34-1

Scottish Embroiderers Guild Regional Meeting

I was delighted to be the morning speaker at the Scottish EG Regional Meeting in Stirling.  242 people had tickets.  I made my talk an overview of the last few years, from landscapes in rain, through to the hares and recent studies which will inform later work.  It was wonderful to meet so many people I had taught in the past – from Elgin and Aberdeen and Dumfries to name a few.  Huge thanks to Angela who helped me set up and take down, it made all the difference.  And to AVG for bringing the goodies I ordered beforehand!2018-04-21 10.21.3631120693_1598365513545397_5856329169570365440_nCan’t believe I am only just blogging this and it happened over a month ago on the 21st April!
